English work, late 19th/early 20th century - Oak and brass coal box. Solid oak body with sloping front opening into a hinged door decorated with chased brass fittings. Brass carrying handle on top and side handles. Mounted on runners. H. 34 x 31 x 52 cm Note: Typical of the Victorian era, this coal box or "coal scuttle" was a staple of English fireplaces, used to store coal near the hearth while adding a decorative touch to the living room.
