VERY FINE ANCIENT ISPAHAN RUG (Iran, Shah period, mid 20th century). Prayer-shaped with an ivory field decorated with a crenellated mihrab, adorned with a flowering vase surrounded by richly flowering and finely drawn trees of life with hanging birds. Two midnight blue spandrels with floral bulbs. Three borders, the main one in beige, decorated in the same way as the central field, with stylised birds. High quality silky wool velvet on a silk foundation: silk warp, weft and fringes. Good condition. Density. Approximately 11,000 knots per dm2. Exceptionally fine. Very poetic decoration.
