Magnificently decorated on the back, and distinguished by the high quality of its craftsmanship and its perfect state of preservation, the instrument was presented to Madame Berthe Fidide in 1909 on the occasion of her winning the violin prize at the Conservatoire National de Musique. The competition jury was chaired by Gabriel Fauré and included the conductor Édouard Colonne and the eminent French violinists and pedagogues Jacques Thibaud and Jules Boucherit.
