TRIUMPH TR3 A from 1960 Designed to rival MG and Jaguar, the Triumph TR2 was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1953. Simple, easy to maintain, with a top speed of over 160 km/h and relatively inexpensive, it was a huge success in the UK and abroad. The TR3 followed in October 1955. Modifications to the Standard Vanguard 2-litre engine increased power from 90 to 95 bhp. The most obvious difference was the square-mesh grille. Thanks to a new cylinder head, the engine reached 100 bhp in mid-1956. In August, Girling front disc brakes and a stronger Vanguard Phase III rear axle were fitted as standard. The mechanically identical TR3 A, unveiled in 1957, featured a new front end with a full-width grille incorporating indicators and parking lights. For the first time, the doors and boot were fitted with lockable handles. The interior was also improved. Hard-wearing and fun to drive, the TR3A was a worldwide success. Production ceased in 1961 to make way for the TR4. But to satisfy American customers disappointed by the gentrified TR4, a few last TR3s were built for the American market (3,334 examples), followed by a TR3 B version, equipped with the TR4's more powerful 2.2-litre engine (105 bhp) and fully synchronised gearbox, of which 2,804 were produced... Of American origin, this magnificent TR3 A, yellow with black interior, was completely restored in 2006, with a sand-blasted bare chassis, suspension, radiator, brakes, clutch, electrics, engine, carburettors, interior, soft top, carpets, side panels, seats, everything brand new. It seats 4 (for very understanding passengers), as stated on its registration document, thanks to a rear bench seat. It has 5 chromed wire wheels, a tonneau cover, roll-over protection and side screens, and is fitted with heating and an additional electric fan to prevent overheating. It has also been fitted with sound and heat insulation and an unleaded cylinder head. Recent repairs: steering rods, front axle ball joints, front and rear shock absorbers, complete wiring harness, new cylinder head, new hoses, water pump, oil pump, fuel pump, new radiator, steering relay and carburettor.
