TSHOKWE, Angola/Democratic Republic of Congo. Wood, pigments, glass beads, plant fibres. Mwana Pwo" mask in the Muzamba style, depicting the face of a beautiful young woman with an elaborate hairstyle, embodying the ideal of beauty and honouring the ancestor of the lineage. The oval-shaped face with flattened chin is marked by large eye sockets enhanced with white pigment, the cruciform frontal motif with circular ends "Cingelyengelye" and the raised Masoji blades. H. 19.5 cm.
