In this beautiful winter landscape, snow is falling heavily on the Ukimido at Katada pavilion on Lake Biwa, covering the trees framing the temple with a white mantle. A single lantern, its warm light reflected in the water, warms the atmosphere. The Ukimodo pavilion, literally 'the floating temple', is located within Mangetsuji temple and is famous for featuring in one of Omi's eight views: The Return of the Geese to Katada. The current pavilion, built in 1937, recreates the atmosphere of the original.
