Large folio (554 x 436 mm), red morocco, arms of the city of Paris, fleurs-de-lis at the corners and on the spine, gilt edges (period binding). 20 double plates drawn by Louis Bretez and engraved in intaglio by Claude Lucas; one folding line drawing. Cohen, 807. THE MOST FAMOUS AND MONUMENTAL PLAN OF PARIS, commissioned by Turgot in 1734 to promote the image and prestige of the French capital. The 20 superb plates show with extreme precision the main thoroughfares, streets, squares, monuments, churches, hotels, houses, gardens, fountains, etc., making Paris an urban model for the whole of Europe. A fine copy bearing the arms of the City of Paris. Verso of 3 plates slightly browned. Hinges and headpieces rubbed. Old restorations to the binding.
