TURKA, Burkina Faso. Hardwood, very beautiful dark patina, metal. The Turka live between Banfora and Orodara, in south-west Burkina Faso. They use small and medium-sized statuettes for divination. Our example takes up the characteristics of the ancient style, the female figure seated on a stool with a sculpture marked by the geometry and power of its volumes, the dynamism of its forms, the cubist type face and the representation of the scarifications evoking the tattoos of the Turka women.
