The Twa of the Great Lakes region belong to the Pygmy people of Africa. They are generally considered to be the oldest inhabitants of the region. Today's Twa populations are found in Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda.
This highly modern antique pot, with its remarkable mastery of painted geometric motifs, is a perfect illustration of the quality of Twa potters.
