TWO CHINESE TERRACOTTA DANCING LADIES - TL TESTED. Tang Dynasty, Ca. AD 618 - 907. A pair of terracotta dancing ladies. The left figure is dressed in a long dress with a red painted overcoat with long, flowing sleeves, shown in motion, with her arms up in a dancing movement. The right figure is dressed in a long flowing skirt, short bodice and draped in a shawl, the upper body is slightly bent to the side, with one arm in the air, indicating motion in her dancing. It is likely influenced by the Silk Road, due to the style of their garments. Size: 320-330mm x 230-280mm; Weight: 2.3kg Provenance: UK private collection; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong. This piece has been precisely dated using a thermoluminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot.
