Display dishes are among the most appealing artifacts in the history of ceramics. Foremost among them are the Strasbourg specimens, which, in the finest tradition, were able to imitate naturalistic animal or vegetable forms, as did the Höchst manufactory. The table laid during the Rococo period presented its dishes in ceramic boar's heads or in all manner of tureens in the shape of wild and tame fowl, alongside decorative plates laden with deceptively realistic-looking vegetables made of faience, for the amusement of the invited guests. The famous Clemenswerth dinner service, comprising many hundreds of pieces and including a large number of show dishes and tureens with animal motifs, was commissioned by Prince-elector and Archbishop Clemens August of Cologne (1700–1761). It is one of the most important examples of a faience dinner service. A photograph of the Clemenswerth palace kitchen from 1907 gives an impression of the abundance and variety of the service (Bastian, Strasbourg, vol. I, 2002, p. 37). A whole series of magnificent display dishes was produced for one of the most charming pleasure palaces of the time, Schloss Favorite near Rastatt in Baden, owned by Margravine Sybilla Augusta of Baden-Baden. These can be seen in what was once the palace kitchen and is now a museum (U. Grimm, Favorite, 2010). Comparative pieces: J. D. Schaugerichte gehören zu den reizvollsten Artefakten der Keramikgeschichte. An vorderster Stelle stehen die Strassburger Exemplare, die neben der Höchster Manufaktur, in allerfeinster Form, Geschirre in naturalistischer Tier- oder Gemüseform zu gestalten wussten. Die gedeckte Tafel in der Zeit des Rokoko, präsentierte ihre Speisen in keramischen Wildschweinköpfen oder allerlei Terrinen in Form wildem und zahmen Geflügels, neben Ziertellern belegt mit Gemüsen aus Fayence, täuschend echt, zum Amusement der geladenen Gäste. Das berühmte, viele Hundert Teile umfassende Clemenswerther Service für Kurfürst und Erzbischof Clemens August von Köln (1700–1761) gehört mit seinen zahlreichen Schaugerichten und Tierterrinen zu den bedeutendsten Beispielen eines Tafelservices aus Fayence. Eine Fotoaufnahme der Clemenswerther Schlossküche von 1907 vermittelt einen Eindruck von der Fülle und Vielfalt des Services (Bastian, Strasbourg, Bd.I, 2002, S.37). Für eines der reizvollsten Lustschlösser der Zeit, Favorite bei Rastatt in Baden, im Besitz der Markgräfin Sybilla Augusta von Baden-Baden, wurde eine ganze Serie an prachtvollen Schaugerichten produziert, die im heutigen Museum in der damaligen Schlossküche zu sehen sind (U.
