Lot no. 1738
Udo Peters (1884 Hanover - 1964 Worpswede)
On the moor near Worpswede
View of a moor canal with a bridge in the evening light. In its two-dimensional composition, a painting typical of the motif and style of the landscape painter who, under the influence of the Impressionists, Post-Impressionists and Paul Cézanne, developed his own style of individual, interwoven areas of colour. From 1908 Peters, who studied under Albert Weisgerber in Munich, was one of the most important painters of the second generation of Worpswede artists after Hans am Ende, Otto Modersohn and Paula Modersohn-Becker, Fritz Overbeck and Heinrich Vogeler. He devoted himself to the Teufelsmoor and the immediate surroundings of Worpswede as well as views of the village itself, making him one of the most important chroniclers of the town.
