Since the beginning of his work wind has been an essential subject for Uecker. As a typical element of nature wind is, especially due to the changing and advanced ways of its perception, obviously predestined to be visualized by arranging nails. Being invisible but effective makes wind a challanging motif for visualisation through artistic means. The nail fields gain their vividness, their waving immateriality - apart from the phenomenon of light - from the wind; the wind moves the field, blowing into it, determines direction, rhythm and form." (Translated from Ralph Meren, Günther Uecker. Wind, Mainz 1995, p. 11).
The present nail object "Windfeld" impressively illustrates the systematic and organic connection between the two topoi wind and field. "In a century of a nearly unstoppable dynamisation of living environments, wind is an evident symbol of breaking open entrenched structures, of the acceleration of life style and - in the age of constitutive mobility - a symbol of the automated loss of one's footing and ground. Although immaterial, the power of the wind over material things is huge; although invisible, wind determines the syntax of visuality; embodying pure movement, pure kinesis, it turns into a central model of a contemporary conception of the world as an infinite space-time-continuum. (...) Apart from being perceived from an ideological point of view wind may also simply be regarded as beautiful and fascinating in its sensuality and may arouse devotion, joy and excitement." (Translated from ibid., p. 25).
