The Battle of the Kinbourn Peninsula was a Franco-British naval operation, followed by a landing of French troops, during the final phase of the Crimean War after the fall of Sebastopol. It took place at Kinbourn on the south bank of the River Dnieper, now in Ukraine, on 17 October 1855. Ships from the Royal Navy and the French Imperial Navy, such as the Lave, vigorously attacked the Russian fort of Kinburun on the shore of the Borysthenes Gulf (Borysthenes is the ancient name of the Dnieper). This battle, along with the Battle of Sinope, convinced contemporary navies to abandon wooden warships and concentrate on battleships.
