The 111th Antibes Infantry Regiment was the only active regiment to be disbanded during the Great War, in 1916. It was wiped out on 20 March 1916 at Malancourt Wood (2,600 dead and missing) in a matter of moments by a lightning German attack towards hill 304 at Verdun.
