This series of twenty prints was made during Kunisada's trip to the Kamigata region (Kyoto and Osaka) and Ise in 1821. The term meijo (famous women) in the title of the series is a pun on meisho (famous views). Kunisada associates teahouse waitresses, prostitutes and other famous women from Kyoto and Osaka with famous places in the region. Some time later, the publisher Iseya Rihei published ten prints with Kunsiada on the same theme, associating women with famous places in Edo.
