Vaclav Cigler is a Czech sculptor, architect and teacher who studied in Josef Kaplicky's studio at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague from 1951 to 1957. Formerly a member of the Concretist Club and the Other Geometry Group, he has experimented since the end of the 1950s with optical glass, a medium that brought him new possibilities of shape, color, and light. He often works with reflections, specularity, absorption and other deformations of visuality. Vaclav Cigler has long represented the Czech Republic on the world scene and has been selected to participate in major international exhibitions, among them Expo 67 in Montreal. In 2019, he was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
