Auguste Vacquerie (1819-1895) offered the astonished audience of the Porte-Saint-Martin theatre a buffoonish comedy in which the hero is driven by his appetites and stomach discomforts... An exceptional copy by the author, prepared for the reprint published by Georges Chamerot in 1886, illustrated with compositions by Édouard Zier. The volume contains major changes, corrections, additions and extensive marginal notes in ink and pencil, all in the author's own hand. A handwritten note by Vacquerie in black ink crosses the title page: Reprint in accordance with this copy A. V. August 1886. A very fine copy with wide margins, perfectly set in a fine binding by Paul Vié.
