Lot no. 2170
Valentin Oman (born 1935 Finkenstein am Faaker See/Carinthia, resident there and in Vienna)
Untitled
Oman's oeuvre oscillates between abstraction and figuration, as is also evident in this work from 1988, in which a human figure is only recognisable in a fragmentary and shadowy way due to the layered painting style with reworking - comparable to a mural eroded by the weather. This corresponds to the main theme of Oman's art, who studied painting at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna under Hilda Jesser-Schmid from 1958 to 1962: the human image in its transience with becoming and passing away. In addition to free painting, Oman has since created a wealth of frescoes and reliefs for public spaces, especially churches. Mixed media/paper. Signed a. r. a. dat. (19)88. 75 cm x 55 cm. Frame.
