Very rare first edition of the first section of the Album d'un alpinista produced by Domenico Vallino, the most difficult to find. Illustrated with 49 hors-texte lithographed plates. Beautiful album on the Monte Rosa massif. Stamp (monogram A V) on the first page. A fine copy. Domenico Vallino (Bra 1842 - Biella 1913) was a mountaineer, draughtsman and excellent photographer. In 1879, he was appointed librarian of the municipal library of Biella, consisting of over 15,000 works bequeathed by Quintino and Giuseppe Venanzio Sella. He was President of the CAI of Biella from 1894 to 1899, and Mayor of the town from 1898 to 1901. A humanist, he was behind the Italian Alpine Club's school caravans, which introduced young people to mountaineering.
