VALLOT (Joseph and Henri). Chemin de fer des Houches au sommet du Mont-Blanc. Saturnin Fabre project. Études préliminaires et avant-projet. Paris, G. Steinheil, 1899. In-4°, full muffled blue cloth binding, covers preserved (Modern binding). First edition, illustrated with eight hors-texte plates, 7 of which are fold-outs. Interesting study of a railway project linking Les Houches to the summit of Mont Blanc, via the Gros Béchar, the Aiguille and Dôme du Goûter, the Bosses and the Petits Rochers Rouges; from this point, funicular-powered sledges are planned to reach the summit! Most of the route is in a tunnel. The project departing from Saint-Gervais was eventually preferred to this; construction was halted at the Nid d'Aigle, just over 2,400 metres above sea level. Attached is a press article on the approval of the agreement for the construction of the Mont Blanc tramway, a project that competed with the Vallot project and was eventually selected.
