An Empire-period Medici vase attributed to Claude Galle (1759-1815), in ormolu and finely chased, depicting a centaur, with handles consisting of fauns resting on rams' heads, the upper part openwork with palmettes, square-section pedestal flanked on the front by a fountain simulating a grotto and depicting Poseidon, h. 80 cm
Provenance: by family tradition, this lot and lots 1591 and 1594 were acquired directly from the Savoy family nearly 40 years ago.
A similar vase is on display at the Villa Masséna (Nice).
