NAVETTE VASE FORMING A POT-POURRI FROM THE LATE 18th CENTURY In chased and gilt bronze, the removable lid surmounted by a pinecone-shaped handle, the body flanked by handles decorated with satyrs, the body with a laurel leaf and asparagus stalk motif, the pedestal encircled by a grained laurel torus, resting on a black Belgian marble base; minor accidents and restorations. A late 18th century gilt-bronze and black marble pot-pourri vase and its cover The bronze satyr heads on the handles of our example are reminiscent of the work of the bronzemaker and chiseller Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843); similar satyr masks can be found on a pair of tazza attributed to Thomire and in the Wallace Collection, London, and on a mounted vase in the Getty Museum also attributed to this famous bronzemaker (cf.
