Satsuma earthenware double quadrangular vase, Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912)
The two square vases are nested one inside the other. They are enamelled in gold and polychrome in two triangular reserves with numerous rakan surrounded by disciples carrying scrolls, incense burners etc. The rim is composed of a frieze decorated with shippo motifs and parts of pseudo mon composed of kiri (paulownia) and fuji (wisteria) flowers.
