Charles André Joseph Marie de Gaulle was born in Lille on 22 November 1870 and died in Colombey les Deux Églises on 9 November 1970. Albert de Jaeger was born in Roubaix on 28 October 1908 and died in Paris on 19 May 1992. A French sculptor, medallist, founder and goldsmith, he was awarded the first Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1935. He was artistic advisor to General Pierre Koenig, Commander-in-Chief in Germany (1944-1949), General Secretary of the Higher Council for Architecture and Town Planning in the French zone of occupation in Germany (1945-1950), and Director of the Ateliers d'art français (1944-1949).
