Lot no. 229
VERLAINE Paul. Mes prisons. [Corrected proofs]. Paris, Léon Vanier, 1891 [1892]; in-12, antique binding in red half-maroquin with corners, spine ribbed, gilt head (Canape). Complete set of printer's proofs of the first edition with a hundred or so corrections in ink and pencil by Paul Verlaine and another hand (Léon Vanier or a protector from the Herissey printing house).
The proofs, probably the first set, bear 9 stamps from Ch. Herissey's printing works in Évreux, dated 28-30 November 1892. The volume was published in April 1893. The printed title page is dated 1891. The set is preceded by a handwritten blue paper cover, the first cover of which bears the calligraphic title.
This account of the author's imprisonment and legal misadventures also contains the story of his conversion.
The Fischer collection (Galantaris, no. 178) contained the last two corrected proofs of the book bound together by Marius Michel.
A fine copy.
