Lot no. 163
Verticale de Taittinger "Collection", 9 boxes from 1983 to 1998 containing vintages carefully selected by the House.
Initiated by Claude Taittinger in 1983, the Taittinger Collection brings together great contemporary artists around exceptional vintages. Each bottle becomes a work of art in its own right, combining visual creation and Champagne expertise:
9 bottles of 75 cl in the original collection boxes.
"Victor Vasarely": Brut Millésimé 1978, composed of 40% Chardonnay from the Grands Crus of the Côte des Blancs, and 60% Pinot Noir from the Grands Crus of the Montagne de Reims.Victor Vasarely, a pioneer of optical art, was the first to collaborate with Taittinger on this collection. The design illustrates his characteristic geometric style, creating an illusion of relief.
"Arman": Brut Millésimé 1981, made from a blend of 40% Chardonnay and 60% Pinot Noir. Arman, known for his accumulations and his exploration of everyday objects, has brought his unique touch to this edition.
"André Masson": Brut Millésimé 1982, composed of 40% Chardonnay and 60% Pinot Noir. André Masson, a major figure in surrealism, has contributed a work reflecting his world to the bottle. Its decoration evokes a golden explosion in the night, a poetic tribute to the land of Champagne marked by history.
"Vieira Da Silva: Brut Millésimé 1983, a blend of 40% Chardonnay from the Grands Crus of the Côte des Blancs and 60% Pinot Noir from the Grands Crus of the Montagne de Reims. Maria Helena Vieira da Silva has adorned the bottle with a work evoking an imaginary stained-glass window, where patches of colour seem to rise in an effervescence of bubbles, symbolising the fusion between art and champagne.
"Roy Lichtenstein": Brut Millésimé 1985, made from 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from the Grands Crus of the Côte des Blancs. Lichtenstein remained true to his comic-book-inspired world, creating a work in dominant colours of Van Gogh yellow, royal blue and British Racing green. By elongating the image to the point of confusion, he reminds us that champagne is the fruit of the interaction between nature and human ingenuity. ?
"Hans Hartung": Brut Millésimé 1986 is a blend of 40% Chardonnay and 60% Pinot Noir from the finest Champagne terroirs, creating a cuvée of great finesse. Hans Hartung, a master of lyrical abstraction, designed a bottle adorned with black and yellow arabesques on a light metallic background, expressing the energy and movement characteristic of his work. The ascending lines evoke the lively force of champagne ready to blossom.
"Toshimitsu Imai": Brut Millésimé 1988, a blend of 40% Chardonnay from the Grands Crus of the Côte des Blancs and 60% Pinot Noir. The 1988 vintage from the Taittinger Collection was decorated by Toshimitsu Imai, a Japanese artist who is influential in the informal art movement. His design for the bottle blends elements of traditional Japanese culture with a contemporary approach, symbolising the meeting of East and West.
"Corneille": Brut Millésimé 1990 combines 40% Chardonnay and 60% Pinot Noir from the region's Grands Crus, creating a harmonious, elegant cuvée. The Taittinger Collection collaborated with Corneille, a Dutch artist and co-founder of the CoBrA movement. The bottle is decorated with colourful motifs representing stylised figures, reflecting Corneille's joyful and expressive style.
"Matta": Brut Millésimé 1992, a blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir. The bottle was illustrated by Chilean surrealist painter Roberto Matta. His work for the Taittinger Collection features an ochre background dotted with poppies and calligraphic signs reminiscent of the automatic writing of the Surrealists, reflecting a poetic and revolutionary approach ?
