Lot no. 132
[VICENZA]. Ius municipale Vicentinum. Cum additione partium illustrissimi dominii. Venice: Contrini, 1567.
First edition of the definitive version of the statutes of the city of Vicenza, originally promulgated in 1425, here enriched by the Liber novus partium, which compiles rulings issued between 1406 and 1565. In the following decades the work was repeatedly updated and reprinted, confirming its central role in the legal and administrative life of the city. A valuable testimony to local law, the volume offers a significant insight into justice and municipal governance in Renaissance mainland Venice.
Folio (300 x 210mm). Title printed in red and black with a woodcut coat of arms of Vicenza, woodcut initials (waterstains, particularly affecting the final part of the volume, with some signs of historical mould to the last leaves). Contemporary vellum binding (losses to boards and spine). Provenance: manuscript index and notes dated '1624' to the endleaves, a few early annotations in the text
