"Yesterday I made a trip across the Seine (I live at 6 rue de Sorbonne) in the hope of meeting you and Mr de Girardin at the newspaper", but they were absent. He wanted to thank them for the "gracious and liberal hospitality" they had offered him in La Liberté. He wanted to take advantage of the occasion to offer them a text he had written after "a session at the Sorbonne which had made me a little excited", which his friends encouraged him to publish. "The title would be Le Socialisme impérial à la Sorbonne [...]. [I'm not afraid of being the father of this politico-socialist baby, but I wouldn't like to seem too eager to draw attention to my name"...
