Victor Évrard (1807-1877) 'Cupid and Venus', a large three-piece mantel garniture, clock and side pieces, gilded bronze, France, 1852. Gilded bronze and porcelain. An impressive central mantelpiece clock, mounted with 'Venus and Cupid', a sculpture by Victor Évrard (1807-1877) and finished with porcelain plaques. Signed 'V. Evrard' and dated '1852'. Louis XVI style. The representation of Venus with a bird's nest and Cupid with a captured bird in his hand are two love symbols that refer to fertility and offspring. Two matching side pieces, gilded bronze and porcelain. Mounted with putti. Height of side pieces: 38 cm.
