Note: Victor Prouvé began his career as a painter. Born into a family of embroidery designers, Victor Prouvé studied drawing in Nancy and then at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. A sculptor and engraver, but above all a talented draughtsman, he stood out for his prestigious collaborations with the artists and industrialists of his time, such as Louis Majorelle and Emile Gallé, for whom he designed several glassware and furniture sets, later presented at the Paris World Fairs in 1889. As Emile Gallé's successor as President of the Ecole de Nancy, he became a major figure in the Decorative Arts.
