The authenticity of this work was confirmed by Pierre Vasarely, President of the Fondation Vasarely, universal legatee and holder of the moral rights of Victor Vasarely, Aix-en-Provence, 15.4.2025. By the early 1980s, Victor Vasarely had long since been established internationally as a pioneer of Op Art. With the aid of his ‘Plastic Alphabet’, he created strictly configured works in which form and colour are condensed into optical rhythms. Although the spirit of the times increasingly favoured more expressive and narrative art forms, Vasarely adhered to his ideal of rational art and consistently pursued his vision of a systematic, universal visual language. This is also exemplified in the work presented here, ‘KOEROEK’, which was created in 1982: a typical composition of circles arranged one next to the other, forming a ring around a central luminous field. The circles vary in size and colour - from dark red to bright orange - and contrast impressively with the violet background. Zu Beginn der 1980er-Jahre ist Victor Vasarely längst als Pionier der Op-Art international etabliert. Mit Hilfe seines "Plastischen Alphabets" schafft er streng konstruierte Werke, in denen sich Form und Farbe zu optischen Rhythmen verdichten. Obwohl der Zeitgeist sich zunehmend expressiveren und erzählerischen Kunstformen zuwendet, hält Vasarely an seinem Ideal einer rationalen Kunst fest und verfolgte konsequent seine Vision einer systematischen, universellen Bildsprache weiter. Exemplarische zeigt sich das auch in dem vorliegenden Werk "KOEROEK", welches 1982 entsteht: Eine typische Komposition aus nebeneinander angeordneten Kreisen, die einen Ring um ein zentrales Leuchtfeld bilden. Die Kreise variieren in Grösse und Farbe – von dunklem Rot bis zu leuchtendem Orange – und kontrastieren eindrucksvoll mit dem violetten Hintergrund. Der Blick der Betrachtenden wird unweigerlich ins Zentrum gezogen, wodurch die Fläche als dynamisch und vibrierend wahrgenommen wird.
