NACTING VIRGIN, PARIS, FIRST HALF OF THE 14th CENTURY in ivory carved in the round. Seated on a moulded throne bench, Mary presents her right breast to her Son, whom she is holding on her left knee. Her head is crowned with a half-length veil, and she is dressed in a girdled robe and a mantle, one part of which falls to the front of her knees.
