VIETNAM, CIRCA 1920-1930 Head of a Buddha adorned in bronze, in the style of Ayuthaya in Thailand, on a high cubic base in black lacquered wood. Probably from the Biên-Hòa school in Vietnam. Head height: 30 cm. Note: The Biên-Hòa School of Applied Arts, founded in 1903, was one of four art schools set up by the French in Indochina in the early 20th century. Its main aim was to train foundrymen and ceramists. Provenance: Senior military official in the colonial administration in Indochina from 1937 to 1944, and by descent. Expert: Cabinet Ansas, Papillon et de Léry.
