Rare first edition, with a frontispiece and 2 hors-texte woodcuts after Tony Johannot, all printed on Chine.
Autograph signed letter from the author: "à Monsieur le prince de Polignac, Cte Alfred de Vigny". A member of the Ultras, Armand de Polignac refused allegiance to Louis-Philippe and withdrew from public life in 1830.
Some foxing, otherwise a fine copy in a romantic binding bearing the armorial bookplate of Isabelle duchesse de La Roche-Guyon (La Rochefoucauld).
