Edition of 10 + 5AP 109 x 158 cm Archival pigment print; signed, titled, dated and numbered on the reverse 42.91 x 62.20 in. Provenance: Galerie Xippas, Paris Acquired directly from the latter by the current owner Exhibitions : Paris, Galerie Xippas, Echoing Trees, 16 March to 25 May 2019 FR Vik Muniz borrows images from art history, the media and reality and manipulates them. Using materials from everyday life, such as chocolate, diamonds, pigment, clay or dust, Vik Muniz reconstructs an image before taking the photographs and discarding the originals. At first glance, the result of his manipulations does not resemble a photograph, but the work of a magician or virtuoso. While his photographs remind us of a collective cultural heritage, they also challenge the viewer's perception. Everything is redrawn and reinterpreted. Reinforcing our sense of familiarity with different things, Vik Muniz deceives us and encourages our ability to look at reality and analyse it; "vision is above all a form of intelligence, and recognition or identification a kind of comfort".
