VIKING AGE SILVER GILT BRACELET WITH HEART-SHAPED FINIALS. Ca. AD 900 - 1100. A silver bracelet with heart-shaped finials connected by a twisted, rope-like band. Each finial has a gold-gilded surface framed by a finely twisted wire border following the contours of the heart. Additional twisted wire outlines the perimeter, accentuated by small spheres placed at the apex and lower points. The band is composed of tightly wound twists of uniform thickness. A similar example sold for USD 2,390 at Christie's, Live Auction 1313, Ancient Jewelry, 11 December 2003, Lot 513. Size: 75mm x 50mm; Weight: 50g Provenance: Private UK collection; previously acquired on the UK art market in the 1980s.
