Amsterdam, aux dépens de la Compagnie, 1725. 7 volumes in-12, blond speckled calf, gilt roulette in frame, spine decorated, numeral at foot, bluish edges (Binding circa 1800). New edition of these famous memoirs on the end of the Wars of Religion, from 1567 to 1620. Secretary of State from 1567, disgraced in September 1588, negotiator for the League, Secretary of State to Henri IV from 1594, in charge of foreign affairs from 1595 to his death (1617), Villeroy had a lot to say" (Hauser, no. 1425). A precious copy for Empress Josephine (1763-1814) from Malmaison, with the cipher PB [Pagerie-Bonaparte] at the foot and the stamp Bibliothèque de la Malmaison on the title. According to Anne Lamort, these bindings were produced in large numbers around 1800 by the bookbinder Charles-Pierre Bizouard. Some restorations.
