Der im umbrischen Todi geborene Vincenzo Giovannini zog schon in jungen Jahren nach Rom, wo er an der Accademia de San Michele studierte und später Mitglied der Accademia de San Luca wurde. Giovannini spezialisierte sich auf Stadtansichten und arbeitete für diverse Kunsthändler, die bei ihm vor allem Ansichten der antiken Monumente in Auftrag gaben. Das Forum Romanum gehörte dabei zu den beliebtesten Veduten. Er malte es aus verschiedenen Perspektiven und in unterschiedlichen Formaten. Das hier angebotene Gemälde fällt durch seine Größe und Ausführlichkeit auf. Es zeigt das warme Licht und die detailreiche Wiedergabe der Ruinen, die für Giovannini charakteristisch ist. Regesto delle Opere, Rome 2002 Vincenzo Giovannini was born in Todi in Umbria, but moved to Rome in young years, where he trained as a painter at the Accademia de San Michele and later became a member of the Guild of Saint Luke. He specialised in city views and worked for numerous art dealers, who mainly commissioned him to paint Rome's ancient monuments. The Forum Romanum was among the most popular vedutas, and he painted it from various angles and in numerous formats. The work offered here is notable for its large size and impressive detail. It shows the ruins bathed in the warm light typical of Giovannini's works.
