Colombo, Milan 2003, p. 22, n. 37 (cited) Also from the collection of Giuseppe Beltrami, the portrait participated in the 1910 exhibition and is recognisable thanks to the precise catalogue description that reads: 'Portrait of a young man with a large brown hooded sash'. The painting depicts the effigy in three-quarter view with the face turned towards the observer and its execution dates back to the artist's last period of activity, as suggested by the essentiality of the image, the use of a reduced colour scale and the grainy texture. However, this pictorial conduct should not lead us to diminish its effectiveness, let alone its quality, as the painter places all his attention on the rendering of the face, concentrating on evoking the intensity of the gaze and its emotional introspection, achieving an atmospheric vibration that restores tangible vitality to the figure.
