The two contemporary Russian artists live in Moscow and have been working together as a duo since 1994. Their works deal with themes and phenomena of mass culture and combine colourful, striking elements and iconic symbols of Pop Art, which have been making their way into Western countries since the 1960s and have also been found in Russia since the 1990s. With motifs that move between nostalgia and contemporary aesthetics, the artists comment on consumer culture and modern life. The bright, almost garish colouring makes it inevitable that the viewer will engage with the work - just as everyone is confronted with media and mass consumption on an everyday and almost unavoidable basis.
