First edition of this monograph on the Esplanade of the Mosques and the archaeology of Jerusalem by the Orientalist Melchior de Vogüé (1829-1916). Superb steel-engraved illustration comprising 57 figures in the text and 37 plates outside the text, including 3 double-page plates, based on drawings by Melchior de Vogüé and the architect Edmond Duthoit, including 11 plates magnificently printed in colour of architectural details of the Dome of the Rock ("Mosque of Omar"). A very fine copy. Some scattered foxing; small abrasion on one corner. Tobler, 187.
