[VOLTAIRE]. Questions sur l'Encyclopédie, par des amateurs. S.l.n.n. [Genève, Cramer], 1770-1772; 9 volumes in-8, marbled calf, triple gilt fillet, decorated smooth spines, red edges (period binding). First edition. Voltaire offers here a sort of personal encyclopaedia arranged in alphabetical order, largely taken from his earlier writings, in particular the Dictionnaire philosophique. Among the most famous articles: Athéisme, Curiosité, Cérémonies, Justice, Vampire, etc. In his introduction, Voltaire praises the Encyclopédie and warns the authors against forgeries or contributions by disreputable authors who, having opposed the project, would attempt to deviate from it.
