Lot no. 613
VU CAO DAM (1908-2000) Indochina School of Fine Arts. Class of 1931 Portrait of a young girl. Framed oil on panel, signed lower right, countersigned, located and dated "Vence 55" on the back H. 41 cm - W. 27 cm Attached is a poster from the Galerie "les Beaux-Arts" in Saint-Paul-de-Vence for the monographic exhibition devoted to the artist. Signed in cursive letters and ideograms. H. 46 cm - W. 29 cm (folds). Provenance: private collection in Lyon. Probably bought directly from the Gallery during the exhibition in 1955. In the family by descent. Vu Cao Dam's move to Vence in 1952 marked the beginning of a happy, fertile period of rich artistic emulation. The portraits of young girls with their hair done, recurrent during this period, delicately convey gestures and suspended time, and although there is no proven portrait of his daughter, the model seems to be very inspired by his daughter Yannick, then aged 13.
