Walter Becker (1893 Essen - 1984 Tutzing on Lake Starnberg)
"Etude 27 - 7.12.79" - original title
Abstract work by the artist from the "Lost Generation", whose oeuvre can largely be categorised as Expressive Realism. Becker studied at the Großherzoglich Badische Kunstschule in Karlsruhe under Walter Conz and in 1922/23 at the Kunstakademie in Dresden as a master student of Karl Albiker. From 1924 to 1936, Becker lived in the south of France, where he met André Derain, Jules Pascin and Georges Braque. For financial reasons, Becker had to return to Germany, where his works were confiscated as part of the "Degenerate Art" campaign, but he was still allowed to exhibit to a limited extent. In 1951 Becker became a teacher and in 1952 a professor at the Karlsruhe Art Academy, where he worked until 1958. In the 1950s and since 1976 he created more abstract or completely abstract works.
