Kandinsky a consacré sa vie au projet utopique de restaurer la spiritualité dans le monde en utilisant l'Art. Son travail se concentre sur la forme géométrique, influencé par l'industrie moderne et l'engineering. Comme il le dit lui-même : “de toutes les formes d'Art, la peinture abstraite est la plus difficile car elle exige que l'on ait un sens aigu de la composition mais que l'on soit aussi un vrai poète”. Deux ans avant de venir s'installer à Paris, Wassily Kandinsky est confronté en Allemagne à l'hostilité des partis de droite et au Nazisme, sous la pression duquel le Bauhaus fermera ses portes en 1933. C'est en 1931 que Wassily Kandinsky crée VOM HALBKREIS HINAUF, l'oeuvre que nous présentons ici. Cette composition abstraite, réalisée dans une période de forte créativité de l'artiste, illustre parfaitement l'influence sur son oeuvre de l'industrie moderne dont il adopte les formes géométriques et analytiques. Le lyrisme de ses compositions abstraites laisse place, alors, à la géométrie. Il ajoute au vocabulaire suprématiste le demi-cercle, l'angle droit, mais aussi les lignes droites et courbes. Kandinsky élabore un vocabulaire singulier en un jeu formel et déclare “je ne choisis pas la forme consciemment, elle se choisit en moi même”. Sa gamme de couleur s'enrichit, les formes de ses compositions deviennent presque organiques, il refuse de réprimer ses émotions qu'il considère essentielles à la fonction du peintre et se démarque ainsi de l'influence grandissante des Suprématistes et des Constructivistes. On remarque dans notre tableau le concept de l'artiste qui partant d'un demi-cercle va développer toutes les variantes des lignes et des demi-cercles dans une ascension spatiale, mouvement incontrôlé qu'il décrit en partie dans sa réflexion sur l'abstraction de 1931. Kandinsky devoted his life to the utopian project of reconstructing the spiritual in the world using art. His work simultaneously embraced geometrical form, influenced by modern industry and engineering. In his words, “of all art forms, abstract painting is the most difficult, for it demands that one has an acute sensitivity for composition and for colours, and that one is a true poet.” Two years before moving to Paris, Wassily Kandinsky was confronted in his native Germany with the hostilities of the Conservative right and Nazism, which would force the Bauhaus to close its door in 1933. The work that we are presenting here was conceived in 1931 by the artist. This abstract composition, created during a highly productive period for the artist, is symptomatic of his work during a time in which he was inspired by modernism, therefore incorporating geometric and analytic shapes into his oeuvre. These abstract compositions, combined with the influence of lyricism, gave way to his geometric constructions; Kandinsky adopted a Suprematist vocabulary: the semi-circle, the right angle, the straight line and curves became synonymous to the style of the artist, who furthermore claimed, “I do not chose the form consciously, the form chooses itself within me”. While enriching his color palette, his shapes and compositions became somewhat organic. Kandinsky refused to suppress his emotions, which he considered essential to the work of a painter, and furthermore credited the considerable influence that the Suprematists and Constructivists contributed to his oeuvre. In our painting one can see the concept of the artist that begins with a semi-circle and develops into all variations of lines and semi-circles in a spatial ascension, an uncontrollable movement that he describes in part in his reflection on abstraction in 1931.
