Bibliographie gastronomique (ed. 1890), 788 and 789 - Famous treatise in which not only agricultural practice in the narrower sense is presented, but also related topics such as horticulture, hunting, irrigation techniques, gastronomy, pharmacopoeia and silk production. - One chapter is devoted to viticulture and wine production. - The first edition of this work was published in Paris in 1600 and, according to Vicaire, this edition is an expanded new edition of the third edition of 1605. - The plates and illustrations show physical gardens, botanical garden parterres (mostly from the Tuilleries), the title vignette a garden panorama. - {Provenance:} Rudolph Count von Abensperg-Traun (1872-1954), member of one of the oldest Austrian noble families, with his engraved illustrated bookplate with the family coat of arms. To this day the Abensperg-Trauns run an extensive farming, forestry, hunting and fishing business on their estates. - Spine professionally restored, somewhat bumped, rubbed and stained, endpapers somewhat foxed, some of the index pages fingerstained at the end. Leaves T-U8 incorrectly bound, therefore pages 292-306 incorrectly paginated, pages 706 and 707 incorrectly numbered "707" and "708". Otherwise well preserved, the splendid woodcut illustrations with the garden parterres and the plate depicting the medicinal garden in very good condition.
