WESTERN ASIATIC AXE HEAD
Ca. 1200 - 800 BC. A Western Asiatic cast bronze axe head with two distinct faces. Stemming from the upper shaft are two axe faces that are horizontal and vertical. The overall design of this axe head indicates it was not created for use in battle but for a craftsman or a builder. It was most likely used for carving and shaping softer materials. Size: 90mm x 40mm; Weight: 35g. Provenance: Private UK collection; Formerly acquired on the European art market from pre-2000 collections.
