WESTHEIMER (Bartholomaeus) - ALBRECHT (Johann dit Giesser). Collectanea troporum, sacrae scripturae candidatus utilissima... Argentorati [Strasbourg], Johann Albrecht, 1535. In-12 bound in full sow skin on wooden boards, cold-stamped decoration, roulette with portraits of a warrior and a woman, and a double band of a roulette with dogs hunting deer, brass clasps (Binding of the period). Fourth enlarged revision of the collection of biblical tropes taken from Westheimer Hebrew and ecclesiastical commentaries. This work is one of the first publications to integrate Hebrew into a Christian context. It illustrates the growing interest in biblical studies and Christian Hebraism during this period, as well as the desire of scholars to have access to the original texts of Scripture in order to deepen their interpretation. The use of Ashkenazi-style Hebrew typefaces, characteristic of the Germanic printing houses of the period, is also noteworthy. Good condition in a charming contemporary stamped binding.
