In 1924, he became a member of the "Kunstgemeinschaft Wien" (Vienna Art Community). From 1932 to 1938, he was a member of the Hagenbund, and from 1946 a member of the Vienna Secession. In 1950, he also joined the Vienna Künstlerhaus. From 1938 to 1945, he was banned from practicing his profession. In 1947, he was awarded the State Prize for Painting, and in 1952, the Prize of the City of Vienna. He was appointed professor in 1949. In spring 1955, the Vienna Künstlerhaus held a group exhibition featuring 46 of his works, and in spring 2006, a retrospective was shown at the Vienna Diocesan Museum.
